What is a B&B? |

Do you do a full Scottish Breakfast? Each morning we offer the choice of a full cooked breakfast, full vegetarian breakfast or a daily special (different each day). There is also fresh fruit, yogurts, fruit juices, cereals and well as our own special "Do It Yourself" muesli. And of course our famous home made preserves and freshly baked rolls each morning.

When are breakfast orders required? Unlike many B&Bs we don't ask guests for their breakfast selections the night before: We don't know what we'll fancy for breakfast the night before, so we don't expect you to. And while we freshly prepare your breakfast you will have time to plan your day, ask us for recommendations or chat with other guests.

We are travelling with a child or young teenager, do you have a family room? Sorry, no. We only accept children old enough to have there own room/bed and charge the full room rate.

In addition we have a good selection of guide books, maps, leaflets, business information pack and of course we are happy to discuss your requirements, make recommendations and print web pages and detailed maps for you. |

We wont have a car, is this a problem? While we welcome green travellers, getting to many of the popular sights in the Highlands from Dores on public transport is difficult. (See public transport question below) A taxi from us to Inverness costs approx. £10-£15.

How do I get to you on public transport? There is a bus service which runs from Inverness through Dores and on to Foyers. It runs 3 times a day weekdays, twice on Saturday and not at all on Sunday. Other than that a taxi is the only option. Timetable: D&E Coaches

Do you accept Credit Cards? Yes, we accept all major credit and debit cards, except for American Express and Diner's Club.

Do you allow smoking ? Absolutely not in the house.

Do you allow pets ? No

Do you have disabled access? All are welcome at Pottery House, however the house is not suitable for disabled access, sorry.

I'm not very good on stairs, can we have a ground floor room? All our guest rooms are on the first floor and there is a flight of steps up to the front door from the drive, so Pottery House B&B may not be suitable for you. Please contact us if in doubt.

When can we check in? Usually after 4.30.. If you arrive before this time we may not be in as the afternoon is our time to catch up with friends as well as run errands, such as shopping. Of course if you let us know in advance that you expect to arrive early we will do our best to accommodate you, baring in mind that we do need time to clean rooms.

What is check-out time? 10.30

What time do we have to arrive by? We are here to accept arrivals any time after 4.30, however if you think it will be after 9.00 we would appreciate it if you could call and let us know.

Do you need a deposit? A non-refundable deposit of £10 per person per night is required to confirm a booking. We don't like having to do this but we have been left with empty rooms on several occasions by people who book and then don't turn up.

Do you have parking? We have ample off-street parking.

What time do you lock up at night? The front door is normally open until 23.30, however we have no wish to limit your evening so if you think you will be back later please let us know before you go out and we will make arrangements with you to get back in.

We are trying to book flights, can you hold rooms for us? Yes, we can do that for you. Please contact us and we will make a temporary booking for you. However if we have not received a deposit within a specified time limit (which you will be told) we will cancel the booking. You will be emailed to be told that the booking has been cancelled.

I'm a light sleeper, how close to a main road are you? Pottery House is a good distance from the road, which is a small, rural road with infrequent traffic. The most frequent noise at night is the owls in the woods that surround the house.

Do I need to confirm my booking nearer the time? It is not necessary as long as you have received a booking confirmation email or letter. However if you would like to check for your own peace of mind before starting your holiday, please feel free to contact us.

Do you do vegetarian/gluten free breakfasts? Breakfasts are cooked while you wait and you are free to select items from that mornings menu, which includes a vegetarian full cooked. And if pancakes are the special of the day we can make a batch using rice flour for you.

Can I put items in your fridge for storage? This is not necessary, all our guest rooms have a mini silent fridge.

Do you do evening meals? No. However the Dores Inn is in a beautiful location on the banks of Loch Ness, has a separate restaurant and it just 5 mins. walk from Pottery House. There is also a list of recommendations of eating places in our guest information packs.

Do I need to book dinner at the Dores Inn? We strongly recommend that you book in advance during summer months and at weekends. The Dores Inn is the only establishment within walking distance of Pottery House and we find that after a long day in the car, the last thing people want to do is have to drive to Inverness for dinner in the evening.

How do I book the Dores Inn? We are happy to book for you, either email us once your booking is confirmed, or we can do it for you when you arrive at the house. Your booking confirmation will contain the telephone number of the Dores Inn, so you can call ahead yourself if you prefer.

Are the midges a problem at Pottery House / Loch Ness / Dores? As we are away from the wetter, west side of Scotland we do not suffer as badly from them. We probably find they are a real nuisance maybe 3 or 4 evenings during the summer, when it is humid and still. The Avon Product "Skin-So-Soft" is recommended by many locals to keep the midges away.

Can we visit the pottery ? That was demolished in the 1950's, however we do have a book and photos about the pottery if you are interested. There is also some information on the web site of the South Loch Ness Tourist Group. The book is called "Compton Pottery" by Hilary Calvert
